Exploring the Future of Circular Economy and Plastics at Universitatea Politehnica Timișoara

The EDU4PlastiCircular project was recently presented at Universitatea Politehnica Timișoara (UPT), bringing together a dynamic mix of researchers, industry professionals, and academic leaders to discuss one of today’s most urgent challenges: how to develop circular economy solutions for plastic materials.

The event highlighted the project’s goals of fostering green and digital skills among higher education students, educators, and professionals, with a particular focus on the role of plastics in the circular economy. Presenters shared insights into the project’s innovative training modules, e-learning platform, and plans to reach at least 200 learners across Europe.

One of the event’s highlights was the active and engaging debate between academic researchers and industry specialists. The conversations covered practical challenges and opportunities for integrating circular practices into the plastics value chain—from design to recycling and reuse. The event served as a bridge between theory and practice, showing how academic initiatives like EDU4PlastiCircular can directly contribute to industry transformation.

We were especially honored to welcome Prof. Živilė Stankevičiūtė from Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), Lithuania, as our special guest. Her participation enriched the discussions with a broader European perspective on sustainability and circular innovation in education and industry. Her contributions sparked lively exchanges about green competencies and systemic change in educational institutions.

The meeting at UPT reaffirmed the importance of cross-sector collaboration and knowledge-sharing in driving circular economy practices forward. With so many inspiring ideas exchanged, the EDU4PlastiCircular project continues to build momentum, strengthening our European network of educators, learners, and professionals committed to making a real difference.
