Plastic Education and Sustainability Assessment in Focus at International Conferences

Plastic pollution was a key topic at two international sustainability conferences, where researchers highlighted the importance of education and science-based decision-making in tackling the global plastic challenge.

At the SUM 2026 – Symposium on Urban Mining and Circular Economy, the paper “EU Educational Projects on Plastic: The Case of EDU4PlasticC” showcased innovative approaches to environmental education, raising awareness of plastic pollution while promoting responsible consumption and circular economy principles among students, educators, and local communities.

At the World Symposium on Sustainability Governance 2026, researchers presented “Reframing Urban Sustainability Indicators through Life Cycle Assessment of Plastic Waste Management”, demonstrating how Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) can strengthen urban sustainability indicators by incorporating the environmental impacts of plastic waste management.

Together, these contributions highlight the growing importance of combining education, life cycle thinking, and evidence-based governance to support more effective and sustainable solutions to plastic pollution.
