During the final session of the course “Circular Economy and Appropriate Technologies for Sustainable Development” at Insubria University, students engaged in an in-depth exploration of the environmental and societal challenges posed by plastic pollution. The session was enriched by the active involvement of Prof. Elena Cristina Rada, who is also a key contributor to the EDU4PlastiCircular and ProPla projects—two international initiatives committed to addressing plastic pollution through education and innovation.
The lesson encouraged students to reflect on the widespread impact of plastic on the planet, while also exploring how plastics can be reimagined and repurposed within the framework of a circular economy. Rather than seeing plastic solely as a problem, students discussed how it can become part of the solution when managed with sustainable practices and innovative thinking.
The course highlighted the importance of equipping future professionals with the critical skills and knowledge necessary to lead the shift toward climate-neutral and resource-efficient societies. This final session served as a strong example of how higher education can inspire meaningful dialogue and foster the development of practical solutions for a more sustainable world.
