Greetings from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!
Some of our EDU4plastic project partners are currently attending another project meeting here, and we took the opportunity to explore the local shops and culture. While wandering through the city, we came across a shop selling Chinese snacks. However, what really caught our attention—and left us shocked—was the packaging. Every single tiny piece of snack was wrapped individually in plastic! 😟
As we work tirelessly on the EDU4plastic Circular project to promote environmental education and reduce plastic waste, it’s moments like these that make us realize just how much more effort is needed globally. Back in Europe, we’re used to initiatives like paper straws and minimal packaging, striving to reduce our environmental impact. Yet here, it feels like environmental awareness is still lagging behind. The overuse of plastic, especially in cases where it’s completely unnecessary, is disheartening.
It’s a sobering reminder that while we are making progress in some parts of the world, the challenge of reducing plastic waste remains enormous in others. Our EDU4plastic Circular project is more important than ever as we work to educate and inspire change across borders.
We believe that together, we can make a difference. It’s a global effort, and moments like these remind us why we need to keep pushing forward. Let’s continue to raise awareness and strive for a more sustainable future.
